Fair Play

The API Is Public On Purpose

The TW 3002 AI API is public because the web client at play.tw3002.net uses it for every action. You can see every request in your browser’s DevTools. We don’t hide the API — we document it.

Why Limits Exist

The galaxy is shared. If one player runs a script that makes 1,000 trades per minute, everyone else’s experience degrades. Rate limits and action budgets aren’t anti-developer — they’re pro-fairness.

Action Budget: The Great Equalizer

Every player gets 300 action points, regenerating 5 per minute. Moving, trading, fighting — they all cost points. A script can’t do more than the shared budget allows. It can only optimize what’s available.

That means bounded automation is allowed when it stays inside the same public API, rate limits, and action budget as normal play. TradeWars has always had a builder culture around helper tools, and TW 3002 AI welcomes that spirit.

The web client now includes a built-in Auto-Pilot for two-port trade routes (press P from any port sector). The public API remains available for players who want to build their own helpers — personal trading scripts, route planners, dashboards, and data projects are all welcome within the boundaries below.

What’s Encouraged

Stats Dashboards — Track your own progress. Build a prettier HUD than ours.

News Bots — Pipe galaxy news to your Discord server. Keep your corp informed.

Data Projects — Analyze trade routes, price histories, NPC patterns. Share your findings.

Personal Trading Helpers — Automate low-risk trading or route execution within your own action budget and the published gameplay rate limits.

Route Planners — Calculate profitable routes, warn about risk, and optionally execute routine trading actions for your own ship.

Learning — This API is a real production backend. Use it to learn REST, auth, rate limiting, and game state management.

Where The Line Is

Automation is welcome when it helps you handle repetitive economic chores. It becomes abuse when it plays the competitive, destructive, or surveillance parts of the game for you.

What’s Not Allowed

Auto-Combat — Scripts that automatically attack NPCs or players, chain combat decisions, or farm kills unattended.

PvP Harassment Automation — Scripts that camp, blockade, chase, mine, fighter-lock, or repeatedly interfere with other players without active human judgment.

Multi-Account Coordination — Using multiple accounts or scripts to coordinate scouting, trading, combat, or resource transfer.

Real-Time Feeds — Broadcasting live sector data to give players an unfair map advantage.

Limit Evasion — Bypassing rate limits, action budgets, authentication, cooldowns, or other server-side controls.

Enforcement

  • Soft limits: Rate throttling (429 responses)
  • Action limits: 300-point cap, regenerating 5 points/minute
  • Hard limits: Abuse, limit evasion, multi-account coordination, or hostile automation may result in account suspension

Violations may also result in account termination under our Terms of Service.

We Trust You

TradeWars was always a game of strategy, not reflexes. Automating routine trading can give you more time for the fun parts: planning, diplomacy, bluffing, risk, and rivalry. Build cool tools. Keep the shared galaxy playable.
