What changed
New feature
- Melange now grows on rare planet classes — Previously “useless” planet types now have a purpose.
- C-class (Glacial) planets produce melange when populated with at least 5,000 colonists. Rate scales at 1 melange per 10,000 colonists per day, up to 10 per tick, with a 100-unit storage cap.
- U-class (Gas) planets produce melange when populated with at least 1,000 colonists. Rate scales at 1 melange per 3,000 colonists per day, up to 1 per tick, with a 10-unit storage cap.
- Planet transport UI updated — The planet modal now shows melange stockpiles and lets you deposit or withdraw melange alongside fuel, organics, equipment, and fighters.
Background
Melange was already the galaxy’s premium commodity at ports, but there was no way to produce it. This made it purely a trader’s find. Now, patient colonists on the right worlds can cultivate a rare resource stream.
What this means for play
- U-class and C-class planets are no longer just tax havens or low-output traps — they are the only known melange sources.
- C-class worlds can become serious melange farms at scale.
- U-class worlds cap out quickly but are cheap to seed and populate.
- Check the Planets & Colonization guide for production rates and tips.
