Interactive PvP Combat — Fight, Flee, Surrender, or Hail
Ship-to-ship PvP is no longer a silent auto-resolve. When you warp into a sector with another player, you now get a combat modal with four choices.
What Changed
Before: If you warped into a sector where another captain was sitting, combat resolved automatically in the background. You’d arrive and see “destroyed by so-and-so” in the log with no warning or input.
Now: When hostile player ships are detected on warp, the game pauses and you choose your response:
- Fight — Engage every hostile captain in the sector, one after another. Win and you enter. Lose and you respawn in FedSpace.
- Flee — Attempt to retreat to your previous sector. Interceptors have an edge, Merchants are slower, and more opponents make escape harder. If you’re caught, you’re forced into combat.
- Surrender — Pay 10% of your credits and 10% of your cargo as tribute. The strongest opponent collects, and you pass safely.
- Hail — Open a channel to identify the hostile captain. Learn their name, ship class, and alignment before deciding what to do.
Other Improvements
- Threat warnings on warp lanes now show the number of hostile ships present, along with fighter and mine counts.
- Page refresh recovery — if you disconnect or close the browser during an encounter, the game remembers. When you return, the modal reappears with the same choices.
- Timeout auto-resolve — wait more than 5 minutes and the hostile ship opens fire on its own.
- New player protection — captains with a net worth under 10,000 credits see a protection banner in the PvP modal and can’t lose credits or cargo, even if destroyed.
- Sector entry flow is now fully interactive — fighter encounters, PvP encounters, and NPC combat all give you a choice before action happens.
- Version bumped to 0.8.20 across the API, game client, and marketing site.
Strategy Tip
Use the new warp lane preview to check for hostile ships before jumping. If a sector shows ”🚀 2 hostile ships,” prepare for a choice screen. If you’re carrying valuable cargo through dangerous space, surrender might be cheaper than replacement.
