A New Home at tw3002.net — and the Captain's Log Opens

The game moves to a new domain to comply with trademark concerns, rebrands to TW 3002, and launches a public changelog.

What changed

The game has moved from playtradewars.net to tw3002.net. The marketing site, game client, API, and all documentation now live under the new domain. Old URLs still work but will redirect in the coming days.

This change was made after a conversation with John Pritchett (Zyrain), the current owner of the Trade Wars trademark. John was supportive of the project but asked that we not use the full “Trade Wars” or “Tradewars” name, as trademark law requires him to defend it or risk losing it. Fair enough. The game was already being built as its own thing — the domain was an oversight from a late-night purchase, not a branding decision. We’ve corrected it.

Alongside the move, we also standardized the game’s name to TW 3002 across all copy, replacing older “TradeWars 3002” and “Trade Wars 3002” references.

Finally, this Captain’s Log itself is new — a public, player-facing changelog so you can see what’s changing without digging through commits or Reddit posts. Entries will be short, honest, and dated. No marketing fluff, no hiding the rough edges.

Why it changed

Respecting the original creators matters. TW 2002 shaped a generation of BBS gamers, and credit where credit is due: we’re inspired by it, not trying to replace it. Moving to our own domain makes that distinction clear and permanent.

What’s next

The changelog will backfill key events from the last week of development. Going forward, expect entries whenever something ships — features, fixes, or decisions that affect how you play.
